24,800 mile dinan turbo m5

Post by angrypancake »

I was searcing around the CCA for sale site and came across a euro dinan turbo m5, 1985, black/brown buffalo with 24,800 miles. 17" bbs wheels, Brembo brakes... located in chicagoland, but no pics. $50k firm. clearly i'm in no position to buy it, but is the owner a member here? i'd love to see some pictures!

Do a search in the for sale section and you'll find a four page shitstorm thread about the car's value, the history of capitalism, and every other economic-related topic and opinion that could have been thrown into the discussion. There were pictures included.

It looks to be in good shape, from the pictures. Sounds like it needs a few things, but nothing too difficult.

I wouldn't feel too bad Russ, most of the people on this board would love to be "stuck" with your car... :)

its pretty sweet and the owner's a cool dude but he has little if any records. plus he got it for crazy cheap. the PO thought all the turbo stuff was stock! :brickwall:

I'm not sure that records really matter that much on a 535i as opposed to something like an M5. I mean, what's the worst that can happen- the engine loses a headgasket? You need to drop in a $500 junkyard motor? It's not quite as big a risk as it is with an S38.

Don't get me wrong, records and history are great (especially on a car like that one) but it wouldn't keep me from buying that car. It might detract from the value somewhat though. I think $8500 for that car is too much, which is probably why it hasn't sold. He'd be much better off doing the headgasket himself. To most people, a headgasket repair is equivalent (in their minds) to an engine rebuild.

A lack of records probably would keep me from buying an M5.

Right, the real issue with a blown gastket non running car is if there is more damage and an engine replacement is necassary.
