I was wandering about this and remembered asking about FI on Roadfly..........many years ago.

Here is the first question I had – Turbo charging my $175 M535i?? - Duke Samouce 11:08 4/12/2001

Will the Korman kit work on my 10:1 euro engine? Will they make a custom chip for my engine? How about heat build up under the hood? Better get some good stuff for $4800. What am I looking at for HP. My goal is 300+
Thanks again,

I was thinking Korman too, what a laugh. TCD was years out form Turbo aspirations and a kit.

I bought a bunch of 745i stuff for my '88 535is late in 2003. After realizing it was a bunch of crap (turbo shot, manifold cracked) and buying an E34 I called Todd in the summer/fall of 2004.

I first saw the Dinan kit for the E28 in 1990 when I put the Stg IV suspension on. I wanted it then, but at $11k for the Stg I, not in my dreams.

I enjoyed watching Todd's progress on turboing his car. One ride in his freshly turboed car was all it took to get me hooked. That thing was an ANIMAL. Wasn't all nice and gentle like the turbo kits Todd now produces. This turbo spooled all at once and knocked you back in the seat hardcore when it hit.

I don't remember what kit it was (it wasn't a TCD design), but driving my car home after that, and having it feel . . . so . . . damn . . . slow . . . was the initial inspiration. Getting to drive Todd's TCDs2 equipped car (fairly gently, I wanted to see how it drove off boost) sealed the deal.

Same here, I was a junior in highschool still driving my dad's F-150 when Duke was looking at the Korman kit.

I'm personally still looking to go FI, hopefully this winter. I found TCD's site shortly after joining bimmerforums in June of '05. Stage 1 looks like a great deal, especially with my college student budget.

During 5er Fest '05, while listening to Todds TCD Tech Session. Once I finally saw the kits in the flesh, I HAD to have one. Funny, my S1 was the only turbo BMW I had ever ridden in! Never even went along for a ride with anyone who had one prior to purchasing and installing mine. Needless to say I was pleasantly surprised...

Posterity...

You don't know what you are talking about.. (33 views)
Look at my dyno, there is at least 15 more HP ther when the A/F is fixed accross the rpm range. Turbo is not the only answer. With some work, you can get good HP with out having to "ham fist" force feed the engine.

Duke
85 M535i/Hartge - that will beat any turbo off the line.

Maybe you should get a custom plate that says "ham fist"? =)

Unfortunately, my browser doesn't like the archives, so I couldn't get a hold of the classic "I will never turbo my car", quote. Oh well. :)

Yes, I remember. That was before TCD made such a nice s2 kit.

I am afraid that my car with the FI and traction control will be much faster off the line than my NA engine. Oh well, live an learn.
