Toyota Supra Mk IV...SMACK DOWN.........I'm PUMPED!!!
Toyota Supra Mk IV...SMACK DOWN.........I'm PUMPED!!!
Well now, this is more like it.
The M535ti has a Supra Mk. IV on its kill list now.
So here we go....I am traveling down a three lane street heading back to post. I spy a Supra Mk. IV up ahead stopped at a light behind some other traffic. I position myself to pass on his right because the light had changed to green and traffic was moving. As I pass on his right, I floor it and spin the tires causing a little rear end drift in his direction. This got his attention. He quickly changed to my lane and came up behind me.
We arrive at another light. I am the first car on the line and he is directly behind me. I switch to high boost (currently 14.6 psi). Light turns green and I proceed to spin and wheel hop thru 1st (installing the traction control for sure this weekend). The Supra is moving to my left for a pass....I hit second, spin...spin....hook. The Supra is at my left rear wheel, also spinning. I go into third and have good traction.....Supra is still at my left rear and I start to walk him. I shift into 4th still WOT and continue to walk. The supra lifts and hits his brakes hard. I SPANKED HIM!!!!
I also slow and we arrive at the next light and he lines up on my left. I then rolled down my window followed by the Supra driver (SD)...
SD "Well now"
Me "We are going to go to jail doing this" Me meaning another drag race.
SD "you car is running pretty strong"
Then I then give him a quick lowdown on the cars power plant. I then say "I will be nice". Because we were heading up hill with the crest about 1/8 mile ahead, we did not take off like idiots again due to lack of PO-PO visability. He did a couple of WOT sprints as did I and we parted ways.
It was a Turbo Mk. IV (don't know if they all were) due to his power and the HUGE intercooler he had in front. I was also surprised at how much his nose lifted under WOT. It was much like the 280ZX.
Ok now, is that a good kill or what?
Going to chill for awhile...I am pushing my luck with the local police.

Re: Toyota Supra Mk IV...SMACK DOWN.........I'm PUMPED!!!
They weren't all turbo, and the wing doesn't help as it was an option on NA, but they came with 5-speeds if you peek inside (not while you are racing). I would say it was definately a turbo though given your description. The NA wouldn't have been anywhere near you. The twin-turbos were 330 hp stock (crank). Before we redid my wife's it was about 300 at the wheels.Duke M535ti wrote:Was defiantly a Turbo Mk. IV (don't know if they all were) due to his power and the HUGE intercooler he had in front. Most people now convert to a single large turbo as the rear turbo really didn't do well over time due to heat. Hard to say what your opponent did to his, but it isn't likely stock at this date. He needs some help though, the nose shouldn't lift and the wheels shouldn't spin. My wife's car runs HKS F-CON V Pro engine management with launch control and it never spins (chirps though) with 460 hp (at 0.9 bar) at the wheels.

No, thery don't. They levitate on the pile of money shoved at them by Sam in an effort to keep them operational.Rich Euro M5 wrote:You should see how I flew the Apache
Yes. And if you have been paying attention, Duke now has a ground-pounder MOS. I.e., doesn't fly anymore. Somebody took notice . . . . 8)
Duke,

I don't usually condone this... but I'm really tempted to arrange a get together with you.
From the sound of it, your car sounds about equal to my red 951.
If I had a kills list, it would include many modified WRXs, an Evo, an E39 M5 (which would be my favorite kill), a modified 928S, other modified 951s, a 996 or two, a few C5 Corvettes....
If I didn't mind running with a few sports cars on the highway... that's how my list would look.
Oh yeah.. and a hybrid T3/T04E will be making it's way into my car soon... and running 18psi.

You don't have to go to TN to get a whipping. Bring that 951 to Dublin and we'll start you with the 745i and you can work your way up if needed.FSAEracer03 wrote:I don't usually condone this... but I'm really tempted to arrange a get together with you.

My guess is your car makes about 300-310rwhp at 18psi based on what dyno sheets I have seen. Curbo weight ~3000lbs. That should give you low 13s at 106/107mph.FSAEracer03 wrote:OH...TN... 6 of one, half-dozen of the other.
Just from the sounds of it, his car seems to be getting "kills" similar to cars that my car would theoretically beat in the same fashion.
I don't know what you have in the 745i... so I might take you up on that after the turbo swap.
That's what Kyle's S1 runs. I don't think you want to mess with any of the S3 e28s or e23s for that matter.

Cool, bring it to 5er Fest.FSAEracer03 wrote:I don't usually condone this... but I'm really tempted to arrange a get together with you.

Remember now, I was making 293 RWHP at 7.5 psi. I now have W/A injection, and a EBC. Not to mention the RLTC advantage.
The race could be like when I arm wrestled Shifty

Well... I'm not one to bench race, really... but, your numbers are slightly off. The car was trapping in that range at 15psi... but it "slightly" changes with the turbo swap from every car I've seen/worked on with this setup.T_C_D wrote:My guess is your car makes about 300-310rwhp at 18psi based on what dyno sheets I have seen. I will refrain from talking smack... as I'm just not fond of it. But I would love to see your cars sometime, and who knows, maybe we'll meet up!

It trapped 106 two years ago... I don't have a slip to scan, however. That was on an old set of APE Stage II chips hitting 15psi around 3000 in the spring time.T_C_D wrote:If you have time slips, why are you holding out on us? What's it run?
46 trim is too small IMHO. Why not a 50 trim?
Your opinion need not be so humble, as you also develop turbo systems. 46 trim is on the small side for big power, but there are reasons I chose it. It belonged to my best buddy, and he gave me a deal I couldn't refuse, you might say, being one reason. Another is that the turbo's end cost was a full grand after the turbine housing was modified, and the compressor wheel was changed. The housings were even ceramic coated.
Lastly is it's application. I'm not shooting for a high-hp straight-line car. The 951 will give you sore necks after it's used correctly in the twisties... and this one is not going to be a racecar. It's going to be a fun toy I can still flick into corners and not have to deal with wild boost curves. I want boost at a decent RPM, as well.
This turbo showed everything I want on my buddy's old car, and I couldn't refuse the price... so that's what's going into my car.

Don't know, I have a different cylinder head on the car now and it needs dyno time for peak numbers.535ie28 wrote: how much are you running now? going in i didnt believe it!!
I am moving to KS next month and will look at more tuning then.
The car is running much stronger when this post occurred too. Its only getting better with time.
