I'm sick of dicking around with beat to death used AFM's priced out a new one- $350. Priced out a megasquirt on Ebay
350 bucks for v3.0. seems to good to be true, what else do I need? I'm hoping with a kit like this I can run coil packs. Fill me in before I step to the dark side.

Check with Steve H. regarding AFM price. I think he can beat the $350 price.

The reason 350 bucks for the v3.0 seems too good to be true is because you've only got part of the truth. There is more distance between having a Megasquirt v3.0 on your bench and your car running than there is between having a BMW AFM on your bench and your car running. 350 bucks does not buy a tuneable E28 turn-key fuel/ignition management system; I wish it did.

FWIW, I would forget about the coil packs; they're not worth the expense/effort.

Keep the installation as simple as possible, I believe Kyle is putting together a Megasquirt system so perhaps if you're nice to him he will help you.

I was lucky (better to be lucky than smart  ) to find (should be here this week) a Megasquirt v3.0 system with Dinan turbo M88/3 ign/fuel maps. The tune won't be perfect out of the box but I expect it will be close.

ok so lets say I ditch the coil pack what else will need to be bought to run the v3.0
and yes I know it will take tuning and knowlege on my part I just need to know what esle I may need. I will be making the purchase soon. Will I be beter off with the 2.0 or the 2.2?

Just get the v3 board. The V2.2 board will require additional circuitry.

W/o coil packs, you need:
A sacrificial harness or adapter
Lots of wire
3 relays or possibly your stock ones
The toothed harmonic balancer from a b35
The VR sensor and mount for previous
Soldering skills
Lots of time
Computer skills
A laptop with a serial port
Vacuum line

I think that's it. It's been a while since I did mine (4 years) and mine was a carb to fool injection conversion.

I suggest getting your car to run on fuel only first and then play around with controlling the stock coil or wasted spark.

For wasted spark ignition:
3 coil packs
Connectors for coils
VB921 coil drivers
Associated bits for coil drivers
MSNSExtra code

thanks!! that is what I needed to know. I have everthing to run the MS except the B35 harmonic balancer and VR sensor.
