Making the move to FI

Well after MUCH debate with myself I finally decided make the move to turbo. I realized that the HP numbers that I want to see can only come with FI......I didn't want to be one of those that say they are going to build one then never follow through, So I got moving first, overcame a few hurdles and now wanted to share with everyone....
So I picked up a Garrett T61 turbo, 1g DSM BOV, wastegate and began building the manifold today. I plan on placing it as a top mount, in the approx location of Piston #2
In the end, this may not be the nicest looking kit, but as long as it works I will b happy

Not bad. It may not look like much, but it will work. The Georgia Tech Wreck Racing team turbo'd an eta E30 in a similar fashion in order to save money in their budget (GRM $200X Challenge Car). They got decent numbers out of it and it was pretty quick. Should be a fun project.

There is no way you'll be able to close the hood with a turbo on top of that piping! Set it on there and you'll see what I mean. You'll need a hole in your hood...

The downpipe might be tight to fit with a top mount like that. One plus is that you can probably run the turbo drain to the valve cover. Thats easy.

Kyle- I have already test fit it. Like I said LOTS of material is coming off the top of the manifold. I did not cut anyoff of it because I am waiting on the flange before I cut the rest of the material off. The top of the turbo will be right at the same height of the intake when it is on. (It is getting cut below the o2 bung)
The down pipe is coming up. It is tight. I would like to fit a 3" pipe but it might be to close. Their is definitly "S" turns to get out from behind the firewall.

Theres nothing wrong with a little pancake action. If thats what you need to do to fit the DP it'd be alright, as long as it wasnt immediately after the turbine. Git er done!

Are you using stock manifolds or are you starting completely from scratch?

I am using the stock manifolds, for now. The reason why I say for now is becasue the wastegate arrived yesterday and it is bigger then I originally thought. I have to redesign what I had to get this to fit.

This is being redesigned this year, but it worked last year.
