Cartech Manuals - Needed

Post by loup »

I have been wanting to install a turbo my 87 535is and finally did it. I bought the motor/turbo package that mowjones had for sale. Everything looks excellent.

I'm looking for anyone who has a Cartech turbo system that has the factory manuals that came with it. I like to have as much data as possible on anything I buy. I'll send you money for your time and the copies. I called Cartech and at some point when they relocated all of there manuals/paperwork was destroyed.

My plan is to drop it in the car during December and install megasquirt. Can't wait. Trying to get ready for some DE's in the spring.

Thanks

I will have to look when I get home but I am 99% I still have the cartech manual. The cartech manual is more of a brochure than a manual if I remember correctly. What else do you need?

Thanks for the fast reply. Really looking for any technical info that may be available. I'm guessing the cartech kits came with some kind of install/turning manual. I'm interested in any info that is out there.

Anyone using a cartech turbo system?

Korman Autoworks did the work back in 88 so I don't have any of the install paper work. What I got is a cartech brochure and Korman catalog. It is more of "fluff" than information. It was a 3 carb turbo anyway so the jetting and tuning will not help you. Every engine likes something different. Just put it all together and write a simple map and start fine tuning. It is all about the engine managment anyway and that is not in the cartech manual. Here is an old picture.

I thought you sold the carb turbo kit to a guy in the PNW? He called me cursing several times. Guess it didn't turn out like he hoped.

Did you ever dyno your new setup?

Nice Korman / Cartech unit. I bet tuning the carbs can be fun. True about each engine requires a different map. Should be fun getting it dialed in and testing on the dyno.

I never sold the 745 setup. I have tried to ebay the complete system but no takers. I'm going to split up the system and sell the individual parts. Probably make more money that way.

I just bought a complete rebuilt motor with a cartech system on it. The price was right and the PO spent the time and assembled it correctly. I'll be calling you soon for an exhaust system and some other parts.

Thanks

I sold the carb set to a guy in Washington State. The carbs where a nightmare to tune. It was never right. The guy in Washington was going to run it but decided to sell it off piece by piece and buy a Porsche. I 99% sure the carbs are in South America and I don't know about the rest. It is sad the only Korman carb turbo ever built is no more. The only thing left is the original paperwork I have and pictures.

I have not dyno the new one yet. I am in the middle of re-ringing it because the fouls at the piston company provided the wrong oil rings. They provided low tension racing oil rings that flat out don’t work on the street.

I like your new intercooler design. Is it working better than the other design? Do you have any data on it?

Thanks. It uses the same size core as the e28 intercooler. It's been our e34 intercooler for 4 years. That is a picture of the prototype that Sweeney built.

Core is 12x4.3x4.5. I use a 12x6x4.5 for those aspiring for big power.

Both are 70-75% efficient at their HP capacity.
