Overdrive Water Pump

Post by Maddog »

Does anyone know where I can find a smaller water pump pulley for my M30? My car seems to run a lot cooler with a slightly higher engine speed than what I usually cruise at. I know that this is because I have dropped the rear gearing ratio so I cruise at a much lower engine RPM than most cars do. I run about 10 degees cooler on the highway in 4th gear than I do in 5th gear.

I know that this has been discussed before, but I wasn't able to find the thread.

The B35 water pump pulleys are smaller.

x2 That is what most vendors sell as their "overdriven" H2O pump pulleys... Can probably be had for a few bucks at your local dismantler...I'd grab the crank pulley as well to make sure everything matches up. It is differently sized as well...

I burned up a few waterpumps on my old M20 using the e pulleys and revving to 6500. The faster they spin, the faster they wear. Imagine that.

Just something to consider. I dont think the B34 and B35 pulleys are going to be that much different, but you might go with a B35 pump too just to be safe.

B34 and B35 pumps are the same. They spin even faster in the B35 and don't seem to have a longevity problem, so I wouldn't sweat it...
