I'd love to have one someday. I just think they're very unique and a great part of BMW's history. Who cares if the "Rolling Egg" has a 2 cylinder 26 HP engine with a top speed of around 60mph? It's cool!

As long as your idea of "cool" is eqiuvalent to "weird, but not particularly useful". OTOH, the Citroen 2CV is equally weird, equally underpowered, but somewhat more capable when driven through plowed fields. ;)

Don't get me wrong; I like cars solely for their 'cool' factor, too. Heck, I drove this away from my 1975 wedding:

What you see is a '61 DeSoto; essentially a Chrysler Newport with funny chrome and a Dodge interior. It was the last model year of production, with 911 2-door hardtops like this one built. It can turn as many heads as an Isetta these days, but you could actually use it for transportation of up to six adults and their luggage, if you wanted to. However, having driven a much better-handling '61 Chrysler 300G back-to-back with my '74 2002 one day about 15 years ago, I now understand that this kind of 'cool' is posing. Although posing is a legitimate car activity and it can be a lot of fun, my current preference is to drive something where I'm more impressed from the inside than others are from the outside. It follows my definition of a BMW as a 'sports sedan' where the driver is having more fun than the passengers. I always do.

Bottom line? I'd like to try driving an Isetta one day just to say I did it (like the contemporary to the Isetta, below), but I've got no desire to actually own one (the Isetta, not the 507; I don't have a 507 because of the sheer cost - approximately equal to my total net worth, or more).

The Isetta is cool and more show than go, but for a drive from C.R.'s to Texas I would want not the 507, but the DeSoto. Lots of DeSoto roads between WI and TX.

It made Steve Urkell cool. Why can't it make the rest of us cool? ;)
