As many of you know, I've been working on establishing my "DeepGlossCars" bidness. To that end, I met with an Intellectual Propery attorney yesterday and it turns out someone has used the name Deep Gloss previously. She suggested I come up with a new name for the business. That's where you BRAINIACS come in. :D

I'd like to elicit your thoughts on a new name for my bidness. A few guidelines might help you focus on something that is catchy and speaks to what the business is about.

First, I'd like the co. name and the website to share the name. So to the degree it is possible the name should be "eezee unuf to spall" that any average goober could mesmerize it and type into a pooter.

Second, the concept to keep in mind is NOT detailing. Rather, the unifying theme is "restorative paint refinishing". Some of my clients have marveled at the metamorphasis of their car's paint. In many cases, the transformation has been dramatic. Further, my tagline is "A Nearly New Paint Shine, at a FRACTION of new paint price". A retired neurosurgeon in PHX said, "You've saved me thousands of $$ on a new paint job" It is sorta like the "Phoenix, risen from the ashes" thing.

I intend to elevate and redefine this service category. This means you don't play like the other guys. This means using a different vocabulary and creating a verbal and visual image which sets your business apart. I gotta tell ya, if someone had told me 15-20 years ago that I'd happily fork over $5 for a cup of coffee at someplace called Starbucks, I'd have looked at'm like they were from another planet.

Another point. The name should stay away (unless really Kewl) from every day descriptive terms "prettyshine, crystalshine" etc. These can easily be usurped and litigated. Rather, outta the box names, are better. As an example, I've been seriously thinking about "PhoenixSystems" (alluding to the earlier mention of Phoenix) as an interesting name. Hope this gets the juices flowing.

'Nuff said. Sounds a little overly dramatic, but those are the conceptual guidelines.

Remember, there are no BAD ideas!! This is brainstorming, so no poo-pooing names. Let'm roll.

Lastly, by posting your ideas here, I'm assuming you are offering the name for use. ~0

Thanks

Dave

Dave,

Nothing immediate comes to mind, but I would like to submit some ideas on what not to use:

"Such and Such Concepts" -- what, do you merely have a "concept" or do you actually do anything. A real example: International Concepts. WTF do they do? In actuality, they are a school bus contractor!

"This and That Solutions" -- kinda obvious, you wouldn't be offering problems, would you? Ever heard of "Display Solutions"? What kind of display? Store shelves? Nope, they make electronic road signs and traffic lights. They bought the traffic/sign company a fraternity brother worked for -- "Winkomatic." Winkomatic didn't really tell you what they did, but at least it was memorable and kinda cute.

To me, PhoenixSystems is a cool name, but makes me think "electronics" and not "purty cars!"

Anyhow, WTF do I know about this -- I'm an engineer, not a marketer!

Icey D, I think you need to use something with a German accent. I know it may be harder to spell, but perhaps this will help you to remember where you came from. ;)

A few ideas from good ol' Shifty. . .

Zee Buff Weezard

Eye Leik Shinee Sings

Pretty Paint Forr Zee Amerikanz

Zat Paint Looks Gut

Hot Sheet

. . . okay, enough of that. How about some real ideas, now. . .

Paint Magic

The Paint Resurrection

Magic Finish

Finish Magic

Shiny Star

Restoration Sensations

Doktor Luuuuuuv

I know it seems kinda obvious but, how about IceHaus Shine? I can hear it now:
[voice=Cheesy radio announcer]
Give your car that IceHaus Shine!
[/voice]

Other thoughts that come to mind:
Miracle Shine
Mobi-Restore
Shinebucks (ala Starbucks, back to the $5 cup of coffee thing...)
Royal Auto Finish
Regal Auto Shine

Of course, I'm not that creative with names, or my handle wouldn't be greg.epps!

BTW, how much do we get in royalties if you chose one of our names? ;)

Reminds me of the Ass Plumbers DVD I saw in my friend's room the other day. His reply "Uhhh, that's not mine! Someone left it in my room!"

Okay, now that's even scarier, that he was watching that DVD with someone else!!

Dave,

I think the Neuro-Surgeon really has the right idea about what direction you need to go with your company name.
A retired neurosurgeon in PHX said, "You've saved me thousands of $$ on a new paint job" It is sorta like the "Phoenix, risen from the ashes" thing.
If you look into Asian Mythology about the Phoenix "Ho-Oo".

This mythical bird represents fire, the sun, justice, obedience, and fidelity.

I'd use a play on the words of what the Ho-Oo represents, something like "Your Paint will Shine like new in the Sun". You're a marketing/sales guy so I'm sure you can come up with something.

According to legend (mostly from China), the Ho-Oo appears very rarely, and only to mark the beginning of a new era.

This is exactly what your system does - Allows your existing paint finish to enter a new era with the fidelity of the original color.

Personally I think you should capalize on the Chinese/Asain aspects of the Phoenix. Plus being in Bay-Area this could work to your advantage from an advertising aspect. And with the popularity of Feng Shui (what's the proper direction to face your Bimmer when parked to bring peace and tranquility)it could very well lead to some interesting marketing ideas.

It came to me in a dream... (OK, not really, but I just wanted to say that)

For the inevitable TV and radio spots for your empire, you will need theme music. To obtain this theme music, I suggest you journey to a junkyard of yore in a quest for the finest theme music available. Once obtained, you will have the perfect musical accompaniment to your business, which I suggest should be named:

Texas Dave's Silky Fine Opera Shine! :D

Note: for those of you who have no clue what I'm talking about, I'll give my standard answer -- the words "silky" or "opera" should not give too many hits in the archives.

Shawn, that trip in the way-back machine was too funny. Silky Fine Opera Music indeed. I was just explaining that "particular" find and post. It was good for a chuckle. We've had some good times hear, eh?

I have to tell ya, the "idea" is certainly whimsical enuf to be included in the overall marketing feel.

Thanks for the mammaries!

I think you and Ron's little skirmish the other day would remind you that more than my one pic! :D

Either way, how true are those words! It's actually hilarious how much dirt we all have on each other!

Dave,

Make the name of your business represent a new catagory
in the "carwash / detailing" part of the Auto Business.

PAINTLESS PAINT RESTORATIONS, OF SAN DIEGO CA

think of PPG, do they do paint or glass? THINK OF THEIR LOGO

PAINTLESS PAINTWERKS
PAINT SURFACE RESTORATION
PERFORMANCE PAINT RESTORATIONS
PROGRESSIVE PAINTWERKS

good luck

I used to work as an engineer for a company named Phoenix Solutions. They design and build wind tunnels, and the name came about when the company 'rose from the ashes' of a previous corporation that went bust.

How about "Icehaus Automotive?"

Dunno, but sounds like you should change your name to Lazarus, since you seem to bring back paint from the dead.

The problem with Phoenix in the name is someone might not think you are local.

I like the direction of "Renaissance Restorations", although it doesn't really speak to the fact you focus on the paint. But it does differentiate yourself from your average yahoo with a buffer.
