Yesterday was a day that involved much personal sacrifice for 5er Fest. Under pressure, I forced myself to attend the annual "Blessing of the Bock" fest at the Capital Brewery in Middleton, WI. http://www.capital-brewery.com/
On a sunny day of about 34 degrees, I was attendee 350 or so hanging outside in the beer garden.

My mission? Ensure that the beer I procure and deliver to the Fest will meet the exceedingly high standards of our community. My sacrifice? I endured a liter and a half of the famed "Blonde Doppelbock," for which the aforementioned event was named. This is a beautiful beer with about 8 or 9 percent alcohol. Whew. Good thing it was cold outside, cause I got warmed up just fine. After that I endured another liter of the infamous Mai Bock, aka Mind Block, a slighly lighter, though equally stong brew. I believe that these two beers may be acceptable to our collective pallet. Oh yes, I also had to endure about an hour of live bagpipers and their kilts.

My next mission? Investigate the current qualities of the New Glarus Brewery http://www.newglarusbrewing.com/
This fine local brewery makes some of the best beers in the world. But I must make sure their high standards of the past are present in this year's brews.

Let me know if you have any special requests. The websites describe each of their beers. I'm more than happy to meet any requests so long as the beer can be found (some are seasonal or of limited release).

Thank you for your sacrifice! I can't imagine the personal discipline that you mustered to force you to attend the Blessing of the Bock.

You know, that's not a bad idea...I think I'll pick up a few of my favorite local brands before I leave for 5erFest. Of course, since you're coming from WI, you have an advantage over the rest of us when it comes to good beer. ;)

Brian - I'll be sure to check out the Uff-da extra close to make sure it's up to your standards. It could take quite a bit of research!

Yeungling is available here in South Carolina and it's a pretty popular beer which is sold everywhere so its not a problem to get after you get to the fest.

just thought you'd like to know

p.s. i'd love some skull splitters but they aren't available in sc so if anyone would like to bring down a few i'd be much appreciative. :~

Rich,

Yes, thank you very much for your dedication and personal sacrifice -- an oustanding cause! I'd be interested in a bottle of that Uff-Da, too! And remember that when you arrive at the Fest, you'll be able to test plenty of the fine brews available from Rogue Ales, one of the fine 5er Fest 2005 sponsors!

Do all the research it takes sir. Im sure a beer lover like yourself wouldnt want to show up bearing some skunky brew.
