I'll have to follow that and ask Todd some questions when it comes time to do my m52 swap.
It's mine...

The car listed on TCD site is mine. Thanks to Todd for his assistance, guidance and hosting images on his site.
Thought I would bring the crew up to date...it has been almost 14 months of bang away at this darn thing. The goal is to bring it to 5er Fest in 09.
1 I have mounted the e39 rack to the e28 subframe. My e28 now has e39 rack and pinon with 3 turns lock to lock. This was a ton of work, but worth it. I was able to use 100% BMW parts. The only "custom" parts are rods that go between the e28 tie rod ends and the e39 r&p threaded ends.
2 The front subframe has been modified for S52 duty. I am using a Cartech e36 passenger side turbo motor mount arm and the stock e36 motor arm on the passenger side. The front subframe took quite a bit of work to get the right motor height, but in the end worked out.
3 The S52 has been built for FI duty. S52 - displaces 3.3L w/ 8.5 to 1 turbo pistons, ARP head, main and rod fastners, Eagle rods, balanced. Rebuilt head with fresh valve job, MLS head gasket, M50 intake, fresh timing components - chain, sprockets and rails, rebuilt oil pump, e34 M50 sump, euro filter housing with oil cooler fittings. Intake/Fuel (60% complete)- M50 intake manifold, intercooler still pending (very tight for an air to air), might do H2O to air, 42lb injectors

You say that you used 100% stock parts to use the rack. Was there any welding at least. How is the fitment and could you list the parts used and if they are modified to make this work.
Sounds like a very cool project.

I second that query. I am very interested in a rack conversion and would dearly love to see a sticky/FAQ/build list on it.
Check this out...

WOW! This is exactly the project I want to do. I need to get myself more versed in the e28 scene first. I have many questions for the owner of this beauty. How's the progress on this project?

Learn to use the search function and you'll find what you're looking for. It's not an S52, but close enough to illustrate that the later M5x / S5x engines can be installed in the E28 chassis.

I have one in my garage, it will be in an e28 soon.
Why don't you buy one and swap it for your m50b25tu. Not very hard to obd1 swap an s52 since you have all the parts and the market has tanked on price.

can someone send me a list of the most basic parts needed for the s52 swap if i were to use the Zf trans? i have a bmw master mech willing to do it for me. I just want to know the bare minimum to get the major stuff ordered and give him an idea.
any major tricks to get the wiring hooked up correctly with e28 dash? thank you, and yes I have read thread the long full build threads and its difficult to pick stuff out through all content.
