FS: Motorsport M1/M535i (E12) Steering Wheel

Post by JoshInAtlanta »

The unicorn of steering wheels... I have been looking for one since 2003. I finally got it last summer. After spending many days behind the wheel of a 911 with a small diameter Momo wheel, I decided that was the direction I wanted to go with my car, for now.

This wheel was in the M1 and E12 M535i. Try finding one.

This wheel is in need of some serious TLC. New Motorsport Roundel, new leather, and a new sleeve around the hub. Believe it or not, the Roundel is still available from BMW for a reasonable price (under $20).

$200 + shipping OBO.

This is THE RAREST BMW wheel of our era...

As Josh said, just try finding one.

Only put in the M1 (yes, the M1) and the E12 M535, two not very common cars...

This can be recovered by Alan Gunn or other guys....

If you want to sport the most unobtanium wheel in your car, THIS IT IT!!

Recovered yes, but I would not do business with Alan Gun (AGLA). I was severely disappointed with the recent business that I did with him.

BTW, very cool steering wheel.

Cheers,

I'd never have them do a steering wheel of mine, either. They can't even do the Momo stitching.

Yeah, I have a M-Tech wheel that I want recovered also. But I am for sure not going with Alan. I am on the search also.

All this talk has me thinking... I just sent an email to the upholstery guy to see if he is up for the challenge whenever my Alpina wheel is finished.

Some of their examples look iffy, the leather is really smooth too. Anyone actually use them that can vouch for the quality?

Bump far an awesome wheel.

A buddy had them do the wheel for his award-winning 2000tii touring. Looks great. You pick the proper leather for your recover.

This guy recovered my E12 M535i wheel a few years ago and he sourced the kit from AGLA. It took him a while to get the right fitting leather recovering kit as I recall.

Nice stitch job, but I don't like it around the spokes. How does it look on other wheels?

Wheel still available?

Just dropped this sucker off to be reupholstered. The sale is on hold until I get it back. If you're still interested, please let me know and I will save your info for when I get it back. I may still decide against using it.

Bump. It still hasn't been recovered... at this point I would like to sell it to fund another purchase I am about to make. I adjusted the price in the original post.

PM me if you're interested.

Yeah, I edited the original post, pulling up the E26 diagram first. The M1 diagram had the badge labeled as #2, but I had the part # right! Sorry for the confusion.

yes...

Post by BA in CT »

the stitching and texture of the leather...if you can call it that is really piss poor.....Hartge wheels are hard to find and was not pleased with his work.

i just wish Momo still made 380mm wheels, i put a 350mm montecarlo on the 6er in the interim and its just tooo small for e24 e28 cars in my humble opinion....especially with our lovely non racknpinion steering set up....

Is that the wheel you got from Mike? If so, it is the original to B9 #436.
