An e28 board that seems to be missing something...

Post by The_Patient »

I've been looking around for a FAQ thread about all e28 models in general, hoping to find something that goes into detail about the 533i, M535i, 535is, 528e, 528td, M5, the engines, the transmissions, production dates, technical specs, etc but I have not found anything informative other then the transmission FAQ.

Is there a write up somewhere with detailed info about all the different models? Or anything in general?

Yes, I found that funny myself.

I guess I could have prefaced what I said with: I was specifically looking for information about what engine size my M30 was.

To no avail on this website, I thought I would mention my surprise that there was nothing on here regarding such information.

That wiki linked helped.

You might also be surprised to know that the E28 has four wheels. Heretofore, that had never been explicitly stated. ;)

It would help, when you ask a bassakwards question like that for you give us something to go on! :?

What year and model E28 (VIN would be ideal) are you wondering about here?

From the factory it comes with six; one at each corner in contact with the road, one in the trunk, and one in front of the driver's seat. ;)

Which question do you say is "bassakwards"? Is it so hard to understand for you? Or are you just jumping on the ridicule bandwagon which is so common on internet forums?

lol

I realize how to use Google. My original post was meant to ask if there were any informative write ups on this website in particular about the subjects mentioned.

Specific questions get specific answers.

"Tell me everything about every e28 ever built" will get you nothing. Nobody wants to write a book to give you whatever little tidbit you were looking for.

The link is a good, but imperfect spreadsheet about many BMW models. It includes, but is not exclusively E28s.

Then don't get on here. Go on the internet and complain elsewhere.

Your op was a generalized question that could have been easily searched on other sources. However, this is the only site that will give you all the info you will ever need, or at least pave the way for you to find out. And, M30's aren't just one size, I believe there are quite a few subtle size differences depending on the model. A vin would be ideal for this info to be published accurately.

Don't ask the board for help then shit on people that try to give you the answers.

If you wiki the M20, M30, and S38 engines, you will find all the info you seek. You could put together an engine or model FAQ if you like, and it will be included and added to. All the info is out there, you just have to look, but if you want to agglomerate it for everyone, I am sure it would be a welcome addition to the board.

This site has a ton of good general information on E28s.

Wikipedia has some decent info on the e28 and the M30 engines. As for all info on Wikipedia, there may be some issues with what you find there, but it's a good place to start.

Where I work, when someone asks a question like yours -- is there some such feature and why not -- it's usually received by my boss as an offer to take on the project.

I was referring to this:

With that generic statement/question, there is no where near enough information to bother giving you any sort of an answer. :?

If I'd meant to ridicule you, there would have been no doubt about it. ;)
