Anyone have pics on Style 4's?

Post by bane.oh »

I was thinking about getting a set for mine since I found them local and they are a fairly good deal, but I wanted to see them on first. My car is currently stock height, but I do plan on lowering an inch in the near future. Does anyone know what size spacers and tires I might need?

If you search "Style 4 Wheels" you'll get many threads showing a few of us with these. I like the 4's with the E28 vs. the E38 7 they were intended for.

Here's two shots of mine also stock height:

Again, many comments about appropriate tire sizes to run on these. Remember these wheels are 16x8 et23, so they're a lot bigger than what was designed to go on the car. I chose Kumho Ecsta ASX 225/50R16 both front and back and had real problems with clearance on the fronts. They ultimately needed 12mm spacers to clear the strut towers (although 10mm might have done it) and as you can see, it really pushes the tires out of the wells, more than I care for. Could be the Kumho's have a wider cross section than others :dunno:, but the rears are fine. My next set will be either 215/55's all around or keep the rears at 225/50 and step down the fronts to 205/60's.

Another thing to keep in mind is the larger wheel and tire are adding a whole lot more un-sprung weight to the front of the car. If you haven't done so already, plan on upgrading your struts and shocks (I switched out to Bilstein HD's). The combination of these, the wider tires, and new front suspension makes this car a dream to drive; far different from what it was like before. It's great in turns and rides on rails on the freeways.
[As a point comparison, the previous wheels and tires were 15x7 Style 2's with Michelin Pilot Exalto 205/60R15H with (old) stock struts and shocks. And a few sets before that were the 165TR390 TRX's with one set each Michelin 200/60's and 220/55's. ]

They're forged instead of cast, so they're lightweight for their size. Tammer ran them on his m5 for a while.

You snooze you lose. At $180 I couldn't pass them up. They'll look great on my car.

DUDE! What a score. Can't wait to see them on your car.

Seeing a picture of them on Tammer's was what convinced me to get them.

Oh, other funny story. The guy selling the style 4s was the previous previous owner of my M5. He sold it to Mark Wicker whom I purchased it from after 5erFest 08.

That's cool, I know how the wheel game works. You can't post anything on this site unless you expect to see it gone in hours. Cool he is an e28 guy though.

I am still doing research on style 4's and you can pick them up for around $200 on the regular, so I'm not concerned. The thing is, when I search the forums, "4" is not included in the search. That is why I posted this thread. I was hoping someone could tell me the correct tire and spacer sizes depending on suspension setup, and then I could see some pics and decide if I like the look. If anyone out there has info on Style 4 fitment, and pics, especially with the ST springs-because that is what I am thinking on going with-please fill me in.

Thanks, and congrats on the score. How was the condition by the way?

That's beautiful.

Do you know the suspension set up on that 535is? It doesn't look stock.
