Huuuuuge improvement over the worn out sport seats, surprisingly easy to install:

nice! Was the install similar to installing e34 seats? I have e34 seats in mine but I wash they were black like yours.

Not sure how the e34's would differ, as I have not messed with them. But the front bolt holes actually line up perfectly, but the seats are offset too much to the inside of the car. So I used 2 small steel plates and drilled holes to put about 1" of offset, moving the seats outboard.

On the e28 the rear bolt holes are lower than the front, so I had to shim with washers.

Not quite a period correct look, the e90 seats actually fit the look of the car better, but these feel perfect and look it as well. Super firm and solid, and tons of adjustability. Plus, a little lighter than the stock power seats. That was one thing I liked about my e46, too bad the e90 sport seats aren't as nice.

I loved the sport seats my E46 coupe and always wondered what they would look like in an E28- looks awesome! Sadly, I'm addicted to my power seats even though they're heavier ;) Thanks for sharing!

Wow, that actually looks very nice. My driver seat is falling apart and I need a replacement. Maybe this will be a viable option instead...

How high do you sit?

A hair higher than stock, but the height adjustability of these seats is larger than stock, so I can scrape the headliner if I want, or barely peep over the steering wheel. There doesn't seem to be any loss of height range, though I generally prefer to sit high so I haven't bothered to explore the lower extension.

BTW, the kicker is that the junk yard sold them to me for $80 each. When he quoted that price I had to work hard to keep my composure... :)

I just got a black sport set, power and heated. Wiring is straight forward thanks to the e36 guys, but the rear holes at least on the power seats are off a bit.

Hi there,

How about the rear seats? Will the E46 rear seats fit in the E28?

I am thinking of doing the same thing as I have a full interior available.

Thanks,
sal

I have a set of powered E46 sport seats going into my 528, the wiring is far simpler than E32/34 seats.
Not sure why the link to E34 rear seats was posted, the E46 rears are different size.

Sorry, in my head, I remembered those as being E46 seats. Will the E46 rear seat fit?

No idea, I've never had a 3 series of any flavor. I have an E34 rear bench, and can see the issues. I would guess the E46 shares a similar construction method with a plastic tub/pan...
But I would love to hear from someone who's actually moved one around.

Shouldn't be too difficult. Are you asking about where to pull power or what wires to connect?

Basically how to make it work, i dont have the controls/switches from the e46 so i assume something needs to be retrofitted in there. i also dont dont want a "hack" job, the last thing i want is to get my butt on fire and then the car, hahahaha.

Aren't the seat heater switches located on the seat? That's where they were on the e34 seats I installed.

nope =( thats my dilemma, the e46 heated seats switches are in the center console under the radio. i think they have 3 diff settings (low, mid, high)

That's could be problematic since you don't know where the electronic interface is to control the heating elements. It could be in the seat or it could be somewhere in the car. I guess the ETM should shed some light on that.

On the e34 seats it was simply a matter of supplying power to the correct pins on the seat connector to get the heated seats option working.
