Straight Pipe
Would it be a good idea to straight pipe my 528e? I want a more aggressive sound, but have no funds at the moment. I don't get tested for emissions where I live so I am clear there. The only question I have is does the engine need back pressure to run correctly? Or would it run better straight piped?

Do it. Unbelievable power gain!!!
Took out everything . Now one larger pipe runs from the engine out to the muffler (magnaflow) and out the middle like before but with a thick chrome tip. The E28 Looks great, sounds great, engine runs cooler, and when you press the accelerator pedal and take off you can scrach through third. However you can forget about that state inspection, that is if your state has that. Cost $160. Result Priceless!!!!

You mean..
louder does not mean mo powa?......

I ran my 528e with a straight pipe for a while and I hated the sound. The reason I did it was because one day my cat fell in two (no not the furry kind), I happen to have a 533i that had a straight pipe so I took it off and stuck it on my car until I bought another cat (the metal kind) I was much happier once I had the car back on.
