New E28 Project...

Post by Sparkle' »

Hi there, I'm new to E28's. Between my boyfriend and I we have had 3 E30's over the years and never really strayed away from them.
Now, I just got a wrecked delphin E28 to start a restoring project. The reason I choose this car over most E28's is because other than being wrecked, the car was taken care of immensely. Almost everything in the car was replace/renewed between 1998 and 2006. The car basically hit something on the front passenger side slightly bending the core support and the nose panel. What I need to find out is how to remove and replace the nose panel, and the front and passenger side supports. Do you know if these are welded in and/or bolted in?

Any and all advice/tips are welcome :)

Heres some pictures because this thread would be worthless without ;) It had been sitting for 4 years before these pictures were taken. Already been washed and cleaned up so it doesnt look nasty anymore.

Welcome, and congrats on the score.

Nose panel is welded in, but a sawzal will cut it out pretty quickly. Looks like the frame rails were not damaged when the accident occurred, that's nice.

Hope you have fun!

I think this car used to belong to a board member.

^ Its funny, even though its smashed it still works perfectly fine as if nothing happened to it, except for pointing at the ground.

It probably did. The paperwork that I have says its been in CA around the San Francisco area, then shipped up to Seattle and my dad bought it from that guy after he wrecked it in like 2006 or 2007. Been sitting in my dads field ever since. He originally bought it as a "Parts car" for my grandmas E28 that she blew the head on. Turns out her car may have a more straight body, but this one is better by far.

I spoke to someone in St. Catherines Ont, Canada yesterday when looking for parts for my car. I swore he said he had a front right fender, some glass, maybe even a hood. Not sure if you already have a source, but might come in handy.

Washington! Where cars "mold" ... not rust. (old joke from the M-715 board). If your euro light glass didn't break, maybe you can bend that puppy back into shape. Good luck on the restore!

^ Unfortunately you're right! lol I've caught mold on my E30. Not a fan. Lol. Then again, the E30 also has rust :x

Thanks all! :) I've definitely got my work cut out for me. On top of this I'll be rebuilding an M30. Awesome!
