The non-affiliated cars for sale thread... (10/2011)

Post by rmiddendorf »

So I was a little late on the thread refresh this month. Sorry!

Lets post all our non-affiliated cars for sale here in this thread which we can cycle monthly. This series was previously known as 'Rodney's interesting CL find thread...' but now with a new name, but the same amazing result!

I have No Affiliation with these cars or sellers unless otherwise noted and cannot endorse them but am putting them here for discussion and your own edification.

Nice looking 535is:

All - I'm new to the group and looking to get general feedback/thoughts on this posting. It's been listed on autotrader for a while now, and he seems like a totally unmotivated seller. It would be hard to put less energy into an ad - he's even got it listed as an automatic when it's clearly a manual. Nevertheless, 130K on a 1983 is low, and it looks to be pretty clean. It's been in his family the whole time - I'm guessing the old man took pretty good care of it and eventually passed it down to junior. But $6900? Crazy talk, right?

Yes that's pretty rich for a vehicle that age. Nice looking low miles car though. I wonder what they could possibly have spent $10K on? It is a buyers market, look around for a few weeks and you'll get a good feel for values.

One owner car, with full records, and low mileage. Fairly rare find today. $10K is pretty easy to spend if a quality respray was part of the restoration and you don't spin wrenches. I don't think his asking price is out of line, providing the car is as nice as it looks in the photos.

They're asking $4,999, but pretty sure it could be had for less. Mebbe the middle son could be talked into something like that instead of the ricer junk he seems to gravitate to.

1986 BMW 735i - Silver/Beige Metallic - $1200 (Littleton)

http://denver.craigslist.org/cto/2621057937.html

ldie but goodie!
We are selling this 1986 BMW 735 i because we no longer want to spend any more money on it. It is our 3rd vehicle so it rarely gets driven these days. If we don't get a decent offer on it, we plan to donate it. $1200 or best offer.

This is a one owner vehicle and has been garaged from the very first day we purchased it. It has been a very reliable vehicle.

The good:
Newer battery (purchased late last year, or early this year)
Recently did a differntial flush
257,852 miles (but will go up a little as we do drive it once in awhile.)
Brown leather interior
Services and Maintenance have been done at Autoworks of Colorado.

The bad:
Salvaged title due to rear left quarter panel damage (as seen in picture, but lights all work fine)
Blower Fan does not work
Automatic Antenna broken off
Needs new brake-pads soon

This would be a great 1st car for someone or a commuter.
I have more pictures that I can forward if you would like to see.
Thanks for looking. Serious buyers only please. I value your time so please do the same for me.

1975 BMW 2002 - $2900 (Lakewood)
http://denver.craigslist.org/cto/2597891863.html

1975 BMW 2002 Automatic. Zippy little car. White exterior and nice blue interior with no rips or tears (looks like interior was redone at some point). Everything works except the odometer, rear defogger, cigarette lighter, and air conditioner. (There is no belt to the air conditioning compressor, so I really don't know if it works.)

No leaks, springtime tune up and oil change. Newer battery, belts, and hoses. Good tires and brakes and a good spare. CD player works great although you can tell it was not a professional installation (not mine). Only minor rust spots, but you can see daylight under the spare in the trunk. Body in good shape and I think it was repainted at some point too. $2900. Please call my cell 720 289-7353. Thanks.

1990 BMW 535i (Littleton)
http://denver.craigslist.org/cto/2623140218.html

1990 535i, manual transmission. 224,xxx miles, lots of highway since I've owned it. Island Green over Natur tan leather interior. Winter package with limited slip differential and heated seats (GREAT for winter traction and comfort). 15 inch Style 5 rims in decent shape. Good driver, not embarrassing cosmetically, but nothing to write home about either. She's a good, reliable car

The bad:
Bad clear coat, minor dents and dings
Light rust on door bottoms
Minor front wobble between 45-55 mph. Needs bushing refresh etc.
Bad LKM
Sagging headliner.
Minor oil leak from somewhere undetermined. Not a bad head gasket though.
Driver's armrest has cracked leather.
Tires will need replacing by snowfall or within about 6 months if you're in the sunbelt.
Slight leak in brake master cylinder'
Glove box lid is busted, will not open.
No fuel filler door.

The good:
5-speed manual transmission!
New brake pads front and rear
New CSB/Guibo last year
Good clutch and transmission
Good engine, no issues, good power and normal fuel economy (17/24)
Good brakes
New smoked tail lights in good condition
Excellent snow tires available
Well maintained as long as I've owned it and lots of records since 1995, recent plugs, wires, cap and rotor, and ignition coil, as well as crank position sensor

In sum, she's a good car. I've always thought of her as a more interesting Honda Accord, in that she'd be a good car for a teen or a college student, but just cooler than the usual choices. She needs a lot to be flawless, but needs nothing to be a good daily driver while you tackle one job at a time.

E-mail your offers. I'm in no rush to get rid of her.

I love all the new additions to this thread!

Dave- the auto 635CSi is going to be a slow car IMO. All the M30M34 powered E28s I've driven with the AT have been real pigs.

Great selection in Denver right now. Buy the cheap-o 735i and drive it until it breaks.

Looks like they're giving this one away. Probably something simple to fix. I'd be worried about whether or not the engine block got swapped out.

1986 BMW e28 (535i) WOW! - $7000 (danville / san ramon)

I am selling my 1986 BMW e28 that I have been working on as my project car and it's a shame. New Custom interior, new paint, new stereo and the list can go on. You will not find one looking like this and performing like this for this price and this condition. This thing drives and performs like a champ. Just passed smog again. The list of things that have been done to maintain this vehicle are as thick as a phone book. It is DINAN chipped so you get more power out of it and it has the DINAN stage three supension on it so it handles really low to the ground. It also has a short shift kit. Has a rebuilt motor with around 100,000 miles on it and the mechanic says it can go for even longer. I hate to see this car go but I just had a little baby and have no time for it. My wife doesnt want me to drive the baby in it because it's too fast. Feel free to email me with questions. I'm not interested in trades unless it is a bangin 1965 buick riviera other than that forget it. Don't low ball me I know what I have and that is a piece of Classic German craftsmanship with body styling that you don't see anymore. I am asking less than what I have into the vehicle. Happy viewing.

Either you guys drop it back a notch or two, or I'll have to unsubscribe. :(

If I was close enough, this one would be in my garage.

94 740I car is clean has 157000 miles on it the car will not start and has been sitting for two years the motor cranks jus does not start if you are interested give me a call at 2674744595 mitch serious inquires only

I actually called about this one and it sounds kinda shaky like some scam. I call the guy and tell him I'm calling about the car, he asks me "which one"? I tell him the 740i and then he goes into a story about him buying the car in the non-starting condition and that it's been sitting at his mechanic's place for two years. That doesn't pass the smell test. I suspect a scam like he's trying to sell several cars on craigslist that really don't belong to him.

Not affiliated.

Kinda want, but I disowned my E24 because of a cramped engine bay, this would only make it worse.

That's really cool but I would like to see pics of the engine bay and would also like to know which engine specifically they put in the thing. Hopefully it was the M30B35. If it was anything less than you're better off just tweaking the M20 because of its weight savings.

1974 BMW 2002 - $3800 (petaluma)

Up for sale is my 1974 BMW 2002. The car has a clean title and runs excellent. The mileage of car is unknown due the odometer not working along with the speedometer needle. The interior of car is good shape. The dash is cracked but the rest of interior is clean. The rear seats are near perfect and I picked up a pair of sweet vintage Recaro bucket seats. The drivers seat is good shape while the passenger seat has some rips. The car also has a 320is steering wheel which is 10x better than the original bus wheel. The exterior of the car is in pretty good shape. The body is clean and true. It has a little surface rust along hood and the rear passenger quarter panel. The original Verona Red paint has seen its better days thought. The car as some awesome vintage wheels. I believe they are two piece Enkei 92 but i good be wrong. The tires have plenty of life in them as well.

Mechanically the car is in great shape. Within the last 500 miles Casey's Motorsport here in Petaluma installed dual Weber 40 DCOE's along with a 292 cam. They did a phenomenal job, the car starts right up and when warm it idles smooth and constant. The car pulls strong through the 4 speed tranny. The previous owner had a new clutch and a new alternator thrown in as well. Some problems with the car are the e-brake doesn't engage (the whole assembly needs to be rewelde) and the front sway bar end link is missing. This causes the car to pull to the left under sudden hard braking. With that fixed the car will brake true and straight.

Along with the car I am throwing in a 5-speed transmission along with a full coil over conversion kit which basically brand new.
The kit includes:
Professionally cut and re-welded struts
Ground Control Coilover Conversion Kit
KYB Rabbit front shocks
Koni Adjustable Rear Shocks
2 sets of Eibach springs
1 set of softer Honda Springs
Ground Control Fully Adjustable Camber Plates

The car is truly a joy to drive and has great potential. I hate to see it go but I'm traveling to Europe soon and need the traveling money. Please do not waste my time will LOW-BALLERS and TIREKICKERS. I am not open to trade and CASH in hand for a test drive. Feel free to email me with any questions you may have.

Oh, and this M5 that I found: Not sure if it belongs to someone on the board (I'm sure it does, though), but I thought I'd post it up here Anyway.

All service records available.

Hate to sell my pride and joy but college tuition takes priority.
