My HCV therapy thread. Update 12-23-15

Incivek therapy starts Monday.
Any personal experience or knowledge, first hand or otherwise?

Interferon and Ribavirin treatments taken about 10 years ago
producing pretty severe side effects without a successful outcome.

I might be the wrong person to say this because I work for the company that makes Victrelis but after looking at the side effects of both, the newer one (Victrelis) seems to have less of them and most are pointed towards females. Maybe looking at health forums might you the answer that you are looking for. My .02 cents. For whatever is worth, hope this time around the treatment gives the intended result so good luck with the one you choose!

No personal experience with this. I will say that I'm sorry that you have to make this selection, best of luck knocking this thing down.

They have similar mechanisms and based on the phase III trials, similar clearance rates. Choose based on the side effects and/or interactions with other medicines you may be on. They both have extensive lists of contraindications. Will you be combining with the other treatments or dropping them?

Had another liver biopsy on Tuesday.
The first one was done 13 years ago and showed mild increased fibrosis, but no cirrhosis.
I'm hoping for the same this time around.

Liver biopsy results shows no significant change.
However the viral load, which I've not had checked in the past 8 years is severely increased, but the Hepatologist doesn't seem to think that is significant.

In the next couple of weeks we, the wife and I, are gonna be making the big decision whether to take the new therapy or not.
Last go round I was out on disability for 5 months, cutting the therapy off at that time
because of the overall negative impact it was having with no signs of arresting the virus.
This go round, we're told, will be a 12 month process, rather than 6, since the first therapy didn't prove to be positive.

Incivek was the choice.
According to the MD and the Pharmacist there's been an 80% success rate among genotype 1 patients.
Not sure the numbers are that much different with Victrelis, but that's the choice, so I'll be taking it one day at a time and hoping for the best.

Good luck Sherman, I had to look it up, I didn't have a clue what it was. :dunno: Sometimes ignorance is bliss. Or at least not having to deal with some things or words, even on a secondhand basis.

You are both in our prayers and have our best wishes during this ordeal.

Remember you are blessed with wonderful family and friends. Return the blessing by honoring those connections- Allow people to help out where they can.

edit: That came out a little too somber so here's a bunch(:D) of bananas:

Good luck with the meds Sherman. We'll keep you in our thoughts and prayers. I hope the treatment makes for an improvement, and that a bunch of folks (maybe even me?) get to see you at V and RTT.

Side effects seem a bit tamer this time around.
At this point it's mostly flu-like, same as last, but a bit less in the fatigue area.
I attribute this to the fact that over the last several weeks I've been prepping myself
with an almost total juiced, raw fruit and vegetable, diet, feeding the system hoping the blood numbers
won't fall so far in the toilet this time around.

Thoughts and prayers have been very encouraging as well.
One of my, so called, friends even called last night, hoping my wife would answer,
wanting to know when he could come make a deal on our ///M5.
Can't even wait until a body gets cold, geesh!!!

!!! ??? !!!! Talk about cold. Perfect reason why you should spring back hale and hearty, just to get his goat.

Get better bud!
