Re: Vlad: The Zinno '87 535is
Beautiful work Charlie.
Re: Vlad: The Zinno '87 535is
Good point Travis about the different console.
I don't know the 260/5 is weak per see, but it has that reputation. Part of the reason i know the swap information is because the 633 callaway turbo i swapped because 4th gear was totally missing.
I don't think it would be problematic to use one, and it will probably be helpful that you won't abuse it and that you will have a bit less power going through it at higher elevation in durango...

Re: Vlad: The Zinno '87 535is
Last year I had a reputable shop carry out a M30B35 swap for my '88 528e. A few days after I dropped the car in the shop, I see a guy offering a 265/6 for sale, and he was based not far from the shop. I jumped in and within 2 minutes I had a lock on the trans. Drove to pick it up the next day, and dropped it at the shop. Trans supposedly came from an E24 635, and it was in very decent shape.
At the time, shifter consoles were not available at usual online dealers, and Ebay was a desert. Following your advice Charlie, I skipped other short-shifter options and directed my shop to get Autosolutions on the phone.
So, the guy from Autosolutions (Roland? Ronald?) offered, for a bit more money, to CRAFT a shifter solution that did not require a sheetmetal console, and he put together something that looks like a spatial armature. The guy took the project like it was a personal challenge to his capabilities, and boy did he deliver. Moral of the story is, for this specific issue, a bespoke solution can be achieved outside of parts availability. To me (at least) this makes me think this is how it feels to use made-to-measure shoes or Savile Row suits.

Was in the Santa Barbara/SLO area this weekend. Reached out to Hans who sold me Vlad in 2013 (we've kept in touch).
We met up and had great chat.
I love the E28 community.

I had other priorities (involving a woman).

Hi Charlie-
Do you happen to have a photo or a set of photos of Vlad's belly with this setup in place? I'd be curious to know if you had any issues with fitment, if you are running a catalytic converter (if yes, which one?), and where is your O2 sensor located.
I ask because when I did my M30B35 swap, the shop that did it installed a Supersprint header (SS #781401) and a Supersprint muffler (SS #781626), but in the middle portion, instead of using SS #781582 and SS#781523 (which you can see in your photo) they did some custom work which I think doesn't work (or sound) as well. I recall I had to travel abroad for a few weeks around the time they worked on the exhaust, perhaps there was some miscommunication with the shop, bottom line is I'm still baffled by that decision.
I'm just trying to right a wrong that has bugged me for some time... any help is appreciated -F

Now to see if I can find the time to get it installed before 5erWest.

I have two O2 sensors. IIRC they are installed on the IE headers.

Thanks for the link Charlie, great photos and reference, but I wasn't able to find what I was looking for...
