Door handels, what Are they made of

Post by Brein »

Hello, i want to get some chrome door handels for my e28, currently they are black but the paint has seen better days, looking around in my area, found someone who can chrome them but they say they can only do steel, not aluminium currently not sure what they Are made of, tried using a steel wirecutter but im not sure if im scraping of the paint or scraping the «aluminium»
Anybody now what they Are made of?
For anyone asking, yes i know you can buy e12 or e9 chrome oem door handels, but its cheaper an easyer to Get the ones i have done

I don't know if they're aluminum or zinc, but they're not steel. Take a magnet to them. Weight is wrong too, they're too light for steel.

I'm surprised at that...chrome plating is typically very expensive, even if you can find someone willing to do the work. I just looked at RealOEM and they show a list price of $72.39 for e12 door handles (the prices shown there aren't necessarily exact, but it gives an idea what new ones cost.) Used handles would be cheaper.

Yup. 209 list new, discounts available from the usual sources of 25-50 probably.
