OT - Powerblock TV

Post by 1st 5er »

Haven't seen the show, maybe some of you have.

My friend Randy just emailed me, copying an email he received from Powerblock TV...
Hey guys,

Just a reminder you are on Powerblock this weekend August 29 & 30.

Spike TV

11am -1pm ET

We talk about the car in Horsepower after the first commercial break @ 11:36am ET.

Remember the show order has changed…Xtreme, Horsepower, Trucks, Muscle Car.
Posting in case anyone is familiar, and a fan of the show and interested in this particular cars background.

I saw it at Randy's shop while he was working on it.
This guy does awesome paintwork, the best I've ever seen.

If anyone local is ever interested in visiting his shop and wants an introduction, let me know.
If he's in town, we'd be more than welcome to drop in.

Is this the friend that's going to help you with your E12?

This is the one... if...

I have two options in friends who work on automotive exteriors.
This guy, Randy, who owns Painthouse Texas, and really specializes in frame off restoration rebuilds, to show quality standards, and doesn't really get involved in collision repair, unless of course one has the cash and wants their car done to those same show quality standards.

The other option friend does collision repair that make for good 20 footers. He runs a 'just your typical fast food style body shop'.

Honestly, I can't afford Randy's work and would not ask him to cut me a deal that would only benefit me and not him.
And I think I want a better job than the other guy will do, finish wise, at least at this time.

So, I'm thinking now of dismantling the car, having Randy coach me through the repair process, and then have him do the spraying, while coaching me through the finishing process as well.

We'll see.

If I had been born rich instead of good looking, I'd just take it to him and let him do it all, but I wasn't so the work will have to be by the sweat of my brow, and that's OK because I've always had an interest in learning to do quality body work, and what better way/time to learn, than on your own car, especially one the quality of the E12.
And who knows, maybe along the way some Euro front and rear bumpers may surface, that'll fit into the repair budget.

Sumday Corvette
We’ll explain the name later. This gorgeous ’62 Corvette has one amazing story but believe it or not, in 2004 it sat under 12 feet of water from Hurricane Ivan. Owners Steve & Jen Keffeler decided to restore the Vette that originally belonged to Jen’s dad, Top Gun pilot Stephen Richards. They spent two years cleaning it up for Randy Borcherding and the guys at The Painthouse who labored 8 months from raw fiberglass to final paint. The color is a custom mix called Dark Pearl Maroondy. Then Ron Magnus finalized the four year resto with a drop dead leather interior. Jen nicknamed the car “Sumday” because some day she was going to restore her Dad’s car.

No, that's Courtney Hansen, the Powerblock TV host. [her dad is Jerry Hansen, who used to own Brainerd International Raceway in Minnesota and I believe still has the record for SCCA national titles.]
