5erFest 2012, September 20-22

Post by Cactus »

Thursday Sep-20 through Saturday Sep-22.

That'll put 5erFest right in the middle of O'fest in Columbus Ohio. We plan on having a "5 Drive" on Friday, and our show and shine on Saturday.

Since there will be official CCA activities all week, many of us will be hanging for longer than just the 5erFest portion. As such, I'd recommend going ahead and registering for any O'Fest activities separately. I doubt our rag tag team of collaborators will manage to make joint-registration possible,.

Some of the details are hammered out, which may or may not stem from difficulty communicating with the Buckeye chapter (either they seem to like 2002 guys more than us, or they're scared I won't shut up about how awful E30 suspension is compared to the E28 setup at dinner parties.)

P.S. Any sponsorship questions should be directed towards Tim Wing. Or you can send them to me, and I'll sort you out.

Official Hotel:

Hampton Inn & Suites ~ Polaris
8411 Pulsar Place, Columbus, Ohio, 43240, USA TEL: 1-614-885-8400
1-614-885-8410 Fax
www.hamptoninnpolaris.com

The group rate is $115 per night, and mention the group code 5erFest or BMW get-together-thing. They'll figure it out.

If you can't make an E30 handle, you're doing it wrong.

My brother added toe links to the rear of an E30. Works great.

It's a humor piece, run with it. But I do actually hate how the springs and shocks are separate. Toe links sound like exactly what they're missing.

Variety is the Spice of Life!

(I love e30s, if you can't tell. )

Edit: you CAN buy a full on rear coilover setup. I want to say it's $2k, and you need to shore up the shock towers.

Sadly, a lot of the ones I've seen have airbags in the back. I know you can make them handle, but it's even easier to make them not-handle. I've driven a whole bunch of bad ones. I've driven one that had an M50 swap, and it somehow felt slower than an eta.

That's a shame. What is also a shame is that I won't be able to make 5erfest this year. Have fun, guys!

Bring it anywhere but Dallas, and I'm going to strongly consider the road trip.

This sounds like something I can actually pull off! Sounds like a great time and I'm always looking for a good reason to hit Columbus.

Because making a 5erFest event coincidental with an BMWCCA O'fest event make so much sense on many levels. Irregardless, from where you are in TX, anywhere else is far away :laugh

Indeed! The good thing is that we are accustomed to making the long road trips for worthwhile events. Hell, I'll drive to Luling for BBQ. We'll see you in Columbus this year.

Adrian,
I'm hoping I can make it to the event.
If I can swing it, let's try to caravan up together.
Any other Florida guys going?

Hell! If that is what it takes to get you to 5erFest Adrian, I will keep you oversupplied with beer for the duration!

You do have to bring/drag or kidnap TimK into attendance however.

Yea man, we can cruise up to ohio with some tweaked M30s.
Cousin Billy says he is in. We usually meet in lake city.
I wouldnt be suprised if some sixer guys head up. We should put a caravan together for sure. Lets start talking dates and time...

Coldswede says he will have plenty of beer for us

Questions should be held till we get a little further. Since that won't be good enough for some of you (you know who you are), I can take all queries, which I will re-direct to a "procrastinate on answering these" folder.

Should be a fun time, I can't wait to see all of you.

P.S. Any sponsorship questions should be directed towards Tim Wing. Or you can send them to me, and I'll sort you out.

unofficial response----

Here the O'Fest hotel info:
Hilton Columbus/Polaris
8700 Lyra Drive, Columbus, Ohio, United States 43240
Tel: 1-614-885-1600 Fax: 614-885-1605
Group Name: 43rd Annual BMW CCA Oktoberfest
Group Code: BMWCCA

There's a whole slew of other hotels near there if you want to avoid the O'Festers. Polaris seems to be some sort of mega-mall.

We have a host hotel! The rate is $114/night and you can select either two queens or one king. We have a decent block of rooms available but you probably want to book soon. More details to follow but you can call and mention "5erFest" or "BMW Car Show" to get the discounted rate. Here's the info:

Hey Guys,
I'm kinda new to this conversation but Coldswede tells me that "registration" has been extended until 7/15/12. Can someone post-up the registration link in this thread or did I miss it?

When I attended O'Fest/5erFest 2010 at Road America, we registered through the BMW CCA site. Is there joint registration this year too? I'm too tired and sleepy to check.

Tim- the 5erFest registration isn't up yet. Register for O'fest as you would like and we'll get something together for 5erFest soon.
