Any mobile mechanics in NOVA/Wash DC area?

Post by LookoutDC »

I have a 1984 BMW E28 533i (m30 3.2L) that probably needs a head gasket replaced. I know the local shops in my area, RRT Racing and GT Peace to name a few. However the price quoted by them plus the fact that I will need the car towed there is quite hefty. I was wondering if there are any mobile mechanics in the Northern Virginia (NOVA) or Wash DC area that still work on E28's?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike W.

No help on recommendations, but keep in mind head gaskets usually blow for a reason, like the head is warped. Or the head is eroded. Now after 40 years it could just be natural causes, but don't be surprised if headwork adds another three hundred (or more), easy, to the bill. And another week in time. But better one bill now, than one now and another larger one later.

It's weird, I have an extreme distrust of most shops, but I often find myself justifying their prices, or at least some high prices.

Thanks for advice. The car had been sitting and when I tried to get her back on the road, she was overheating so I was chasing that gremlin. I'm putting my eggs in that basket, hoping that is what caused the gasket to fail and no head work.

I was already forewarned by the shop that heads might have to be machined but it was no $300 dollars (I wish).

Thanks again.
