My question is I know what makes 535's great but what make the M20 powered 528e's great.
I really like this car and am interested but I have never even been inside a 528e.

Hey Zieg...
Way to start a religious war! Nice going, buddy!
But in all seriousness, there are some here that will say, "The only good 528e is a dead 528e" but we try to make sure they stay on their medication long enough to keep them under control.
For the rest of us, I find them to be absolute pigs if they came with an automatic transmission. I barely consider them BMWs. But with a manual transmission, they simply beg to be driven. With a better 50/50 balance than the 535, they are great fun on the track and exceptionally fun on the ice (if you're into that sort of thing). Thanks to the high torque engine, they are surprisingly good urban assault vehicles - first off the traffic light every time. And as long as you change the oil every 4k miles, you can run them up to redline all day long. In terms of creature comforts, they seem to have all the same bells and whistles as any other E28, except I don't believe they were ever shipped with heated seats (something I'm going to start looking for)...
If you can put up with changing a timing belt every 60k miles, which after a couple changes becomes a simple task, there really isn't much bad you can say about them. Unless you have tiny junk. Then all you crave is horsepower...
Hope this helps,
.steve.
