EH Automatic TPS for Megasquirt

Post by Brad D. »

I have an e34 TPS that I was going to use, but I don't have a plug for it. I also have a complete EH automatic TPS setup which includes the idle and WOT microswitch as well as the variable resistance TPS for the automatic trans. Has anyone actually used the trans control's variable TPS for Megasquirt. Looking through the ETM, it shows that it should have .7V at idle and 4.77V at WOT. To me this seems as if it would work properly. Just wanted to see if anyone has tried this yet or if I need to be the guinea pig (unless somehas has an e32/e34 TPS plug they want to sell).

I have used the e32/34 TPS with the megasuirt and all you need is the yellow brown and black wires one you find a stock plug or pin out the TPS and use barrel terminals with your own wiring. Once it is connected and grounded the TPS is easy to calibrate with Megatune. It does display a funny low reading error but it works great none the less.

Some have found this TPS to be a little more noisy than the TPS from an e36 or e39. Noisy in that the TPS causes the accell enrich to turn on and off constantly. The first sensor I had did this but I switched to another and it went away. The only drawback to the e36/39 TPS is you will need to fab up a mounting bracket to use the e36/39 TPS sensor.

So far I have 8000 miles logged with the Megasquirt and FI engine and no issues at all.

I actually ended up wiring the power and ground backwards for my TPS. Of course the splices were made, and I didnt want to undo them. So I have 5v with a closed throttle and a decreasing amount of voltage as the throttle opens. Just calibrate it however you do it and it works fine.
