Alright had a few hours to play today. Pulled out the old tranny and got the C4 under the car.

Old twin disc setup next to the torque converter. That pilot bearing puller tools works like a dream.

Image

Reverse pattern shifter, awkward moment putting it in but it's needed.

Here it is strapped down to the tranny jack. Couldn't imagine installing the tranny without it.
Image

Here's a side by side next to the 5 speed, the C4 is similar in weight.

Would you consider selling the twin plate setup?

Twin plate not for sale, yet. It's coming together....

Ok, trans is in, cooler mounted.
Picked up the drive shaft today.

Trans cooler mounted were gas tank was.

Rear diff flange adapter to spicer 1310 U joint.

Ended up going with a billet trans yoke that had removable caps in order to install the driveshaft easily. It also has the beefier 1350 Ujoint. Drive shaft custom made with .083 thick, 3" tubing.

It's getting there, in the process of fabbing up the transmission mount.....

No pics but, I finally drove it today. All I can say is 5 speed what..?
It's so easy to drive, just click it into gear and step on the gas, no jerky clutch engagement, just nice and smooth. Gear shifts are seamless, my 6 year old could drive it.
Hats off to Paul Burke for an amazing job and making it happen.

Still need to tie up a few loose ends and a re-tune with the new intake.

Are you going to post some track vids soon??

Btw Otis also interested for the new intake manifold.

Once it's all sorted it will be worth while. I'm lucky it started to leak 100ft from my house and not at the track at 120+mph.

G&T, what's the top speed with that trans?

Don't know the top speed,....yet.. Going to leave the 2.93 in and see how it feels.

Ok, converter shop called yesterday and when they put it on the lathe, back end broke off. So getting a billet back cover that will allow more metal in that area.
It was super thin, around .005 at best.

Crappy twist, but you're not stranger to adversity. Once sorted this thing is going to be nastier than ever. Great work once again Otis. :alright:

Couple questions.

Do you know if the c4 > m30 can easily be obtained by others that dare venture down this route?

I spy a TCI unit. Will a TCI box communicate with megasquirt or it this standalone? Or am I totally wrong & this c4 is vacuum actuated?

Ok, here's a quick crappy vid around 3/4 throttle, the car is sooo much faster know with the auto. Need some track time to see were it's at. I'll get better in a few weeks when I find the time.

Hit the local 1/8 mile track to get the launch down and see how the car reacts with the auto. Dialed it down to 15psi and ran a 7.3 @ 100mph with a 1.8 60ft. Tires spun about 20 feet out and had to pedal it for a sec then back in it. Launching it with 3psi Running drag radials, I'll try the slicks next time.
Ate up a Shelby GT500 too
My best 5 speed 1/8 mile time was slower with 22psi

Here's the best part, I drove to the track and then on the way home drove through the Wendy's drive through for dinner and didn't have to shift a gear. I love this auto.....!!!! And I love Paul Burke he is the man that made this all happen... :alright: :alright: :alright: :alright: :alright:

This is pretty eye opening.
so you're not cruising at like 70mph at 4,000rpms?

Speedo doesn't work but a good guess is with the 2.93 at 70mph it's around 2300. I need to verify the speed with a gopro.

60ft is still weak! Install the slicks and be done with it!

Wow G&T, reading this whole thing is friggin awesome. I'm in the planning stages now and it seems to me the an HX40 would satisfy all my goals.

Quick Q, when you were running in the 4-450 HP range, this was on an B34 block with M90 head, correct? Do you have any idea what kind of compression ratio you were running? I know B35 is about 9.0 to 1, and I think I could make a tad more HP with less lag on a twin scroll manifold.

I previously had a HX40 powered 302 in a volvo 740... I find it hilarious that I could have made more power more reliably with this old boat anchor.
