Oil cooler options??

My forced induction brothers I have not yet achieved your level of performance car aptitude and...and....some other big word. So I seek your advice concerning oil cooling options on a 535i e28...if it matters . I recently ran across this product on eBay http://m.ebay.com/itm/121387847489?nav=SEARCH and would like to know if y'all have used it....it SEEMS possible with our cars....is it?? The easiest way is to use the factory setup. It's not stictly necessary though unless you plan on working the turbo really hard by taking it on track or something like that. Oil temps aren't a big problem with these engines as a general rule, even when turbocharged.

I do plan to track the car from time to time. I also had one that the previous owner had a oil cooler installed on and I LOVED that it kept the engine temp well under half... Oil coolers use to be a big selling item on these cars especially the ones that people tracked back in the 80s and 90s... So I'm figuring somebody here should be able to tell me something....

I am probably harder on my FI motor than anyone and even after many hours of abject flogging I don't recall ever seeing temps in excess of 220. On cooler days the oil barely gets to 200. I do have a good sized heat exchanger so as to where the temps would be without it??? I suppose that doesn't answer your question, though.

i can't speak from experience on the M30, but on my factory turbocharged mazda there is no oil cooler and engine temps stay around 180F without issue. That includes numerous turbo upgrades and some pretty serious abuse.

I agree with the above post to go with the factory setup. One caveat - get an oil temperature gauge first. That was, you'll know what your oil temperature is currently, and what kind of drop you see when you install the cooler.

Get an oil temp gauge first. You may not need a cooler at all. I removed the cooler I had on my turbo M20. The thermostat rarely opened so most of the time it was just taking up space. Without the cooler oil temps never reached 220 under any conditions.
