Starter upgrade

Is it worthwhile to upgrade the M5 starter to a B35(1.7KW) or M70(2.2KW) starter. I am about to replace the starter on my M5.
Thanks Austin. Motor is out, so I'm planning on doing it now as well. I guess I'll do studs also...austin8753 wrote: Mar 23, 2022 1:21 AM i put a B35 starter in my M5, when i had the engine out, a few years ago. i opted to install studs in the block, to make future replacement easier. worked great for me, on both accounts.
when you install studs, make sure the transmission is already bolted to the engine. if you don't do it this way, you run the risk of installing the stud too far in the block and the corresponding bell housing bolt won't have enough threads available to be tightened properly. use red loctite on the end of the stud so it doesn't come out later. good luck!Etip wrote: Mar 23, 2022 1:27 AMThanks Austin. Thanks for that info. I'll heed it.austin8753 wrote: Mar 23, 2022 1:35 AMwhen you install studs, make sure the transmission is already bolted to the engine. if you don't do it this way, you run the risk of installing the stud too far in the block and the corresponding bell housing bolt won't have enough threads available to be tightened properly. use red loctite on the end of the stud so it doesn't come out later. good luck!Etip wrote: Mar 23, 2022 1:27 AMThanks Austin. you would order parts for an M30B35 equipped car, so tell the catalogue you want a starter for a 1989-1993 535i.Etip wrote: Mar 23, 2022 1:58 AMThanks for that info. Is there some other number or ? That the B35 goes by? I've been searching for a half hour and no one like FCP or the other parts suppliers show a "B35 stater"

Its Bosch SR441X for the part number.
