Hi,
My m5 has the M stripe on the back seat seat backs, but on the fronts there is no stripe logo.
The leather matches the rest of the interior and is older/worn consistent with it being 35 years old.

Is it possible that my seats came like this from the factory?

What might explain the lack of M stripes on them (other than they were recovered at some point)?

That's what I thought. That it should have the M stripe badge on the front seats.
So does this imply that, at some point someone swapped out the M5 sport seats for non-M5 sport seats?

Seems strange.
Then again, stranger things have happened.

I am not sure what the confusion is. If the M emblem breaks which they can do with age and use then they are easily removed from the seat. This is what could have happened. To replace the existing emblem with a new one then you remove the seat back and bend the pins straight and then remove the emblem.
The holes are small and can be very hard to see. Remove the seat back and have a have a look for fitting marks.

Replace em and there won't be an issue with them not being there but there will be an issue that they are new and make the rest of the interior look like it needs a bit of detailing.
