My ghetto but functional audio setup...

Since a few people seem to be dealing with similar setups lately, here are some photos of my things that go boom.

In the trunk: Xtant amplifier and MB Quart Reference crossovers. This is a very temporary install, just pulled the board from my old car and wired it up. That's why it looks so shitty.


Front channel: Polk Audio db series 4x6 speakers, minus plates because the tweeters stick out a bit too much. I gotta modify the grilles or get the next Polks up.


Deck: Clarion DXZ845MC. I like it a lot and it has red illumination (see last pic) but small buttons and shitty shuffle characteristics mar an otherwise perfect deck.


Rear channel: Original BMW premium audio on top, MB Quart Reference series 5.25" separates inside. Complete with totally ghetto mount for the tweeters, but it's temporary.



Remote mount passive 10" subwoofer: Sitting in my attic awaiting installation...

This is a stupid/noob qeustion but where does the subwoofe go? And the MC450 polk fit behind the grill plates correct.

I have no subwoofer installed at the moment. 8" subs can fit under the seats, 10" subs must go in a box in the trunk.

I believe those polks will go behind the grill plates with no modifications.

Ok, the car stock has subwoofers right? I feel like an idiot, haha. I cant go check either, I dont get my licences for about 10 months, my dad bought me the car before Im 16 because he had an E28 535i and liked it so much and saw the car a dealership, it has 74k and my dad managed to get it down to 5 something so he got it for me. Anyway

hate to say it but could've saved some $ by doing coaxials on the back.

I see one big mistake.

Why do you have your positive amp fuse in the trunk. The fuse is not to protect the amp, your amp will have its own protection, it should be under the hood as close to the body as possible. You need to do this because if for some unexplained reason, your wiring shorts out on the body, you will blow a fuse, and not your battery. Unprotected wiring for more then 2 feet is a big no no. Especially if you are runing through firewalls.

There is a second fuse inline about 6" from the battery. The positive fuse is there from my previous trunk install in my old car. Ditto on the separate speakers. In my Alfa, the battery was in the trunk and the 5.25's were the front channel.

Like I said - ghetto but functional - I just pulled it out of the Alfa and dropped it right into the Bimmer.
