Hi everone, I was wondering what all I needed to do to my 87 535is so I could run about 10 lb of boost. The car is completely stock except for the conforti performance chip from turner.
Welcome - search the FI forum for a few days. There is so much knowledge here already and we really don't like posting it over and over again. If after that, you have questions let us know.

The big six is harder to do from scratch becuase there was no factory turbo manifold. Unless you want to make something, which is sketchy, you have to buy one aftermerket.
You could possibly build an air to air intercooled M30 turbo for 3500 if you knew exactly what you were going to need. I spend a lot more because things come up and you tweak as you go along. I could do it again for my m20 for under 3k, but figuring out everything without wasting some $$$ is tough.

Sometimes you're like the KC Ron of the turbo world . . . m102 and m106 were both factory turbos based on the m30 motor, so there most definitely is a factory manifold that can be used.
It's sub-optimal due to the fact that it uses an old style turbo flange and the turbo that goes with that flange is slow to spool and can't support a ton of power, but it does most definitely exist.

My apologies on the KC Ron comment. Sometimes you're wrong, but you're nothing compared to him.
I mean, we're talking about a man who insisted you could accuaretly tune a turbo without load since he could make boost by blipping the throttle while standing still.
And it should be noted that the M106 wasn't installed in any US car. Except for the freaks and exceptions, it should not be here. The 524td was legit...

You know I knew that, I'm just not quite at operating temperature, if you know what I mean. Sitting around at work isn't exactly mentally stimulating...
