damn... my wet dream
I need more money and bigger garage
In some day i will get a "real" diesel car for my diesel performance projects

This is little bit too bligbling for me..... maybe race truck look fits better to me

now im working with water/methanol spray system in my 524
only bad thing is that..... im totally broke...
so must use my creativity with this.....and freebie parts
this is my plan...
-two car headlight washer pumps connected in sequence to get about 4bar pressure.
- oil burner nozzle
-pressure Switch
-limit pressure valve
-self maded tank
-flow controller valve
to increasing water pressure i connect hose from turbo to water tank..
when pumps are making 4bar then boost make extra pressure about 2bar in tank..... i got allmost 6bar waterpressure
and nozzle fitted just before intake manifold
im not making this to get more power...... only to get exhausta/burning gasses little bit cooler and engine lasting longer.

If you want pressure...I suggest you don't use vane style fluid pumps designed for flow and volume. I would use compressed air to pressurize a sealed tank of water/methanol using a small and cheap air compressor designed for inflating tires to pressurize a tank with water/methanol inside.
One option, If you fill the tank with 75% mix and leave 25% air and pressurize it to something crazy like 9 or 10(135-140PSI) bar, it should have enough pressure to push the entire charge of mix out of the tank. You can use a fuel pressure regulator to regulate the pressure of mix leaving the tank if you need to.
Second option is more difficult and more expensive, use the same idea as above but leave the compressor attached, wire it up to a pressure shut-off switch that will limit tank pressure to your desired pressure.

Ok..... in finland we have used methanol/water injection for years..... and it works fine.... in our engines..... only point is dont put too much methanol max 30%Frybrid 524td wrote:Methanol injection isn't advisable in an IDI engine based on what I've read. and if you use those HEADLIGHT washer pumps which are larger.... they can make pressure..... one friend told that he has measured allmost 13bar pressure with those.
this system is what im going to make is used largely in here.
and it works.
and allmost all my parts are free.
i just got pressure switch for free.

Hay guys. I'm a total newb when it comes to diesels but I'm pretty comfartable boosting m20s. So just to be clear if I want a moddest increase in boost say 1.5 bar i'd just need to put a bigger turbo and a stronger internal wastegate? No bigger injectors or other mods. Sounds like the factory pump will handle the rest with no mods for my power goals.

Ok nothing new on my car.... but....
I just got back to home from dyno....
quite nice dyno run from my friends mb 190D over 380bhp and about 560nm torque
with water spray system power decreased about 5kw but this was only water.... not methanol/water mix
funny thing was when we was going to dyno, my friend tested his car and when 3rd gear was in..... suddenly BOOM!.... and there wasn't 3rd gear anymore.....
engine is basically unopened non turbo om603 300D engine
mods are
-garrett gt40 turbo
-holysmokediesel injectionpump with 7mm plungers
-large chinacooler
-special exhaustmanifold and 3.5" exhaust system
-special plenum
-devils own water/alcohol injection system

And unfortunately there is nothing new with my project
but i can tell few funny things with other cars
that 190diesel is now former one... engine exploded
but there is now new engine OM606 24valve turbodiesel with all fun stuff from old engine...
but it seems that my project is really on ice until i get that new job...
I love diesel...
I have a E36 ti (Compact) with a M57 swap (i am yet to complete)
but you can read through my thread on bimmerforums if you like..
i must get one of those 324 / 524tds engines to fiddle with..
i also have a Cummins 5.9 with a P7100 pump... makes about 350whp with the original turbo & injectors... it's unbeleiveable !
here's a link to my E36 M57 thread:
http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/sh ... ?t=1558481
and here's a picture of my Cummins truck drifting:

Nice truck. Welcome to the forum.
The M21 diesel isn't the best BMW diesel engine to play with. They have a lot of weaknesses. Personally I'm looking to import a n M51 from Germany later this year..
As far as I know the M51 was the last BMW diesel motor to use mechanical injection (despite the VP44 electronic injection pump which I would replace immediately) P-pump it, or use a maxed out VE injection pump with Cummins internals. I just hate computers mixing with engines.

both engines are similar crap piles...
One guy from our holysmokediesel club has now mls gasket with stock head bolts in m21... and no problems anymore...
in both engines.. same problem... bigger radiator and better head gasket... and you can rock with these engines...
in m51 you need mls gasket too... or you get same result what you get with m21...
I have lot of new information from these engines, because we now have few other guys who like to play and test with these engines...

A friend of mine uses the VP44 with good success, but i can see why you would want to swap it out !
I suggest a M57 and using the interior loom as i did, not so much trouble and they make around 270whp and 650nm in stock configuration with only ECU reflash...
I always wanted to swap one into a E28, and maybe one day i will
Consumption is also unbeleiveable @ 60mpg in Highway use !
You wouldn't beleive it until you've tried it

m57... answer is direct injection shit...
and by the way... we have more than 270whp in our m21 engines...
and i can say... turbo is former turbo if you only reflashing ecu... stock turbo cant take it
second thing... m21 engine is quite badass engine from block
stock crank shaft is forged... and connecting rods are very strong make with 26mm piston pin.
and if i choose m57... there must be more than 500hp
mechanical injection pump is best for these engines.... and if i change injection pump... i will go for inline pump with 8mm plungers from mercedes made by mynädiesel
or if i change engine... i will take mercedes om606turbo engine...
it can take unopended over 500hp
and only these mods are needed.
-large intercooler
-bigger turbo
-7mm or 8mm plungers to injection pump
-exhaust manifold with 3,5" pipe
most powerfull om606 has over 700hp and over 1200nm
and it is 3.0L engine
here is one badass bmw from finland...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uDK3K2TlAWs
with mercedes om606 engine and 362,2kw 760,2nm
and final thought... swapping is only swapping... and chip tuning is not real performance... (sorry if im saying too straight)
m21 gives me a challenge

Well I can't speak from experience since we don't have M51s here in the states. However, the idea of a timing chain driven second generation diesel with less head failures doesn't sound so bad.DieselBoost wrote: and you are not get anything better with that...

M51 + MLS head gasket sounds like a good mix to me and if you consider:
The M21 parts are not available in the US, I already shop overseas for spares.
The M51 production numbers outweighed the M21 production numbers by a huge margin, which brings us to price.
M51 engines and parts are cheap, I just have to wait for them to make it over to the US when I want to buy them.
M51 didn't have the same cam wear issues the M21 does.
I am totally in agreement for the OM606. Bad ass engine. I would love a little 400+HP all wheel drive Mercedes W163 powered by an OM606.
You know, for the misses.
...And when my E28 breaks down.

I would rather smash my hand with a hammer than use a computer controlled common rail or unit injected engine. I enjoy using vegetable oil based biodiesel in my cars, and biodiesel has never really gotten along with common rail systems. Ever. The tolerances are too close, and pressures are too high. Any moisture in suspension under 10PPM can cavitate inside the high pressure pumps and destroy pumping surfaces. Not to mention the computers trying to analyze the fuel types and adjusting the injection accordingly. Only to burn holes in pistons or clog injector heads with coke. No thank you!Angelic0- wrote:

Head failures are common... I would not say less...CoyoteStarfish wrote: second generation diesel with less head failures doesn't sound so bad.
and it cant take power better than m21... many has proven it.
it only looks better engine...
only good in this engine
-no rocker arms
-chain (and there is problems with m51 timing chains... major problem is stretching timing chain
-12mm head bolts
my friend who has that mb and 524td... has one e36 325tds... and there is cracked head and stretched chain...
only mods are chip tuning and straight pipe

ok... between writing all bullshit
tomorrow i will continue some small tasks with my 524
my friend said that he has one m20b20 engine start motor, and i will test that will it fit to my 524
and second i will re adjust my engine timing which is about 2tooth wrong between cam and crank shaft
then i will erase pre filter from lift pump... it causes problems in winter...
then for a long time i will try to start my car...
if this works i will do few other jobs too...
like new springs etc...
maybe soon i will give few new photos and maybe some acceleration testing...
btw interesting... my head has loping feeling still.... caused by my friend mercedes... which i was driving today...
i can hear that engine in my head....
someway this is quite irritating feeling
